|1||Hugh Smith||30||fall from roof|
Coal miner Hugh Smith and his wife Agnes Brown along with their young family moved from Furnace Row in Dalry, Ayrshire to New Cumnock where Hugh found work as a fireman for the Lanemark Coal Company. Tragically their stay was short lived after 30 year-old Hugh was injured by a fall from the roof while working at the Boig Pit on 23rd April 1877. He died of his injuries six days later at Connel Park .
His wife Agnes and their three children returned to Dalry where a fourth child, a son Hugh, was born named after his late father.
