Sir William Wallace

Started my page on the Wars of Independence and New Cumnock, beginning with a wee summary and then some thoughts on Sir William Wallace and New Cumnock. You micht have heard o’ the Wallace Monument at Elderslie, Renfrewshire and you micht even have seen thae signs at Kilmarnock half-heartedly suggesting ‘This is Wallace Country”.

But where better to look for the King of Kyle, than near Blackcraig hill – the highest hill in King’s Kyle – at the head of Glen Afton, New Cumnock – for ‘apon that sted a ryall house held he’.
